How to Perform Hindu Griha Pravesh Puja?

Buying a house is a matter of great excitement for everyone. The new house is a source of new hopes and aspirations. It’s a result of hard work, austerity and  gives the sense of achievement in life, it is a place one makes many decisions in life that will matter lot, hence the entry into new house has to be auspicious, spiritual and have gratitude towards those who have helped us in achieving this in life. A house is regarded as one of the most precious belongings for an individual.

 Vedic scriptures talk about performing Griha Pravesh ceremony, It is the set of Poojas and rituals that are performed before one starts to live in a new house.

Griha Pravesh, is known as Vaastu Puja it is done to drive away the ill-effects, doshas and increases the flow of positive energy (Prana) in the house.  It is the process of cleansing the new house with Vedic mantras to create most conductive place to live. Performing Griha Pravesh also removes any negative energy left behind by previous  owner, it bestows the dwellers of the home with peace and prosperity and in turn protects the home from any natural calamities. If you are building in new house in the plot of land this removes the dosha of the place. 

Griha Pravesh must be performed on the following occasions –

  • On the purchase of a new home.
  • After renovating an old home.
  • Before moving into a Rented home.

Order of ceremony  performed during Griha Pravesh, dwar puja, entering the house with Kalasha and lamp (diva) , Gauri-Ganesh, Kalash, Navgraha, Laxmi  Vastu puja and havans performed by chanting Sanskirt prayers, ganesh havan, navagrah, vastu, varun havan.

When to Perform Griha Pravesh Puja

The date for performing Griha Pravesh puja can be fixed as per auspicious Griha Pravesh Muhurth or any Good Muhurth date based on Rashi, Nakshatra of the house owners.

Benefits of Griha Pravesh Puja:

  • Protects the house from negative energy, evil eyes and increases the flow of positive energy in the home.
  • Bestows the dwellers of the house with prosperity, harmony and good fortune.
  • Purifies and spiritualizes the surrounding and environment of the home with holy vibes and a divine ambiance.
  • Helps to overcome and removes any obstacles and hurdles one may come across in their life.
  • Graha Shanti puja and Vastu Shanti Puja ensures that the Vastu Purush and the nine planets are revered to prevent untimely and unfortunate events from happening to both the home and its dwellers.
